Expatriates’ church
|
Song in Zinder writes: Paul and Martha Danjuma opened their home to some Americans who were working for the organisation Doctors Without Borders. They accepted the Gospel and started to follow Jesus.
|
Then Danjuma was invited to their base, and a house church developed among the Doctors Without Borders medical staff. To start with, they met in one of the centre’s meeting rooms, but then this was stopped because the organisation has rules that do not allow Christian meetings. So the house church moved into the home of one of its members. Since then the church has grown considerably.
Recently, one of the members, Jennifer, moved home to USA after a successful period of service in Niger. When she left she said: “This fellowship has been the biggest surprise of all. Here in Muslim Niger I have met God’s love in a way I have never experienced at home in America. I will always be grateful for this. I have discovered a relationship with Jesus that I did not know was possible. Thank you God.” Jennifer, who was saved during her time in Niger, has been a great blessing to our work. We are going to miss her. But there are many others left in our little house group.

Issa (right with black turban) with the clan leaders.

Letter from Issa and AkinSome weeks ago we visited Kazaoue, a village some 250 km into the desert to the northeast of Zinder. We were going to speak with the nomadic chiefs who we are collaborating with on a major well project. Our main aim was of course to be able to share the Kingdom of God with them. But we also wanted to bless them through giving them food since there are great shortages. There has been so little rain in this area that there are already signs of famine in many places. So we had a few tons of millet with us to give to them. We were able to share the Gospel with the seven important leaders who were there, all of whom emphasised that they are friends with Peter deJong and Liverød. They were all very grateful that we hadn’t abandoned them, particularly since we had been swindled by some local tradesmen. We prayed together that the Lord would give us the opportunity to complete this major well project during the course of 2010.

Issa in Tanoout
|
After the meeting, we gave them gifts. Their faces lit up and they asked: “How come you remember us time and time again when everyone else forgets us? Those whose job it is to remember us, the political and Muslim religious leaders have long since forgotten us. We feel forgotten and rejected by society. But each time you come, we realise that there is a good God who has not forgotten us. Thank you.”
We want to thank Liverød and all those who support our work. We are so privileged to be able to take part in this service. We are grateful to God, and to you. Thank you for this opportunity to serve. We increasingly understand that God is love.
We wish you a Happy Christmas and New Year.
Best wishes
Issa and Akin
