God’s glory – at the roadside!

One day we (i.e. the team from Norway, Duncan and Carlos from Catch the Fire, two locals and myself) were looking for somewhere where we could camp down out in the bush. There were bushes, rocks or humps and bumps everywhere and we drove for some time, looking for a level area where we could sleep. Eventually we found a place, but when we got out of the car, we realised that there was a puncture in one of the tyres.

The Holy Spirit came upon us unexpectedly at the side of the road.

The air was leaking out quite slowly, so we thought it would last long enough to get us back to the surfaced road where we would be able to use the jack and change the tyre. We set off immediately back to the road. We had had some wonderful days in the presence of God. While we changed the tyre there at the side of the road in the bush, we prayed and praised God. The Holy Spirit came over us.

A common sight along roads in Niger
We laughed and laughed, and a powerful presence of God surrounded us. Elin, Benedikte and Duncan fell to the ground. They lay there in the sand and thorns while the Love of God flooded over them. The Bible tells us not to get drunk on wine but rather to be filled with the Holy Spirit. That is what we experienced out there in the bush. After some while in the presence of God, most of us recovered at least enough to be able to stand on our feet. We decided to drive back to the place were we had intended to spend the night, but it was impossible to get Benedikte back onto her feet. In the end we had to carry her to the car and lay her on the back seat. There she continued to laugh while the Holy Spirit served her. Why should God do things like this?, you may ask, but let us take a look at the fruit.
The following day Benedikte experienced for the first time a blind lady was healed when she laid her hands on her. The pupils of the woman’s eyes were covered with a white film. As Benedikte and the others prayed for her, they saw the white film dissolve and her pupils become clear! God loves to meet people with his power. Allow the Lord to bathe you in his glory, strengthen your heart and equip you for service. This is the inheritance the Lord gives to all believers.
